Free Sugars
Consumption of free sugars is the main contributor to dental caries in children, young people and adults. In Australia, the most common sources of free sugars include; sugar sweetened drinks, sugar, sweet spreads, cakes, biscuits, pastries and batter-based products.
Dental caries or decay can cause pain, discomfort, increased sensitivity, bad breath and require treatment, from fillings, root canal therapy or in severe cases extraction of the tooth.
By reducing free sugar intake oral health can be effectively improved.
