Dental Caries/Decay
Plaque constantly forms on teeth. When consuming foods and drinks containing sugars, the bacteria in plaque produce acids that dissolve tooth enamel. Plaque keeps these acids in contact with the teeth and over time the enamel breaks down and cavities are formed.
If left untreated, tooth decay can result in pain, discomfort, bad breath, increased sensitivity and increased risk of requiring treatment such as fillings, root canal and extractions.
Dental caries can be prevented and/or the risks can be reduced.
