Starting a conversation about your smile
Thinking about changing your smile? Here is how to prepare for the conversation and what to ask about each option.
5 October 2026

Many people wonder whether their smile could be straighter, whiter or more even. At Woonona Dentists, the first step is a conversation with your dentist about what you would like to change. This page helps you prepare for it.
Say what bothers you
Think about what you notice in the mirror or in photos. It might be colour, spacing, shape, a gap or how your teeth line up. The more specifically you describe it, the easier it is for your dentist to explain which options relate to it.
Expect an examination first
Before any change to the way your teeth look, your dentist needs to know the state of your teeth and gums. A check-up and clean lets them look for problems that might affect your choices. You may also be asked about your priorities and your budget.
Learn what the options involve
Depending on your goals, your dentist may talk about teeth whitening, porcelain veneers or orthodontics, or a mix of these. Ask what each one involves, how many visits it takes, what it costs, how long it may last and how you look after it. Results and suitability vary between people.
Decide in your own time
You do not need to decide at your first visit. Ask for a written plan, take it home, and ask more questions when you are ready. Our smile gallery page has the clinic's contact details if you would like to discuss your treatment options, and remember that your own result depends on your own teeth.
What to do next
To start the conversation, call Woonona Dentists on (02) 4284 4486 or book online. For opening hours, visit the Woonona clinic homepage. If another clinic in our group is closer, visit Dapto Dentists or Shellharbour Dentists.
